Wi-Fi Adapter Suggestions

Go to solution Solved by ZetZet,

Maybe something thats not $100 please? I'm willing to spend up to $50 on this, though I would prefer to spend less than $40.

I need a really strong Wi-Fi adapter for my newly-built desktop computer. And i mean really strong. This thing needs to be 100 feet away from my router and still get close to full speed and with good strength. My maximum internet speed is 2.8 Megbytes per second, so I need something good.

I am currently using a powerline network to get an ethernet cable from the router on one side of my house to my desktop, and it kind of sucks. Speeds vary all the time with power fluctuations, and they never reach over 2.0 MBps. The adapter I'm currently using also emits an unpleasant coil whine.

I'm open to any suggestions. Practically any interface will work for this solution (I have two PCI slots, two PCI-E slots, a gigabit ethernet port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, and 2 USB 3.0 ports that can all be used for this solution)

Thanks in advance :)

You also need a crazy router for that distance.

For full speed you pretty much need directional wi-fi to get full speed over that range, or just no walls.

I do have a crazy router for this distance, cause my house i gigantic. On my laptop I can get 2.3 MBps down and 0.3 MBps up from the same location. On powerline I get anywhere between 0.3 MBps and 1.8 MBps down, however upload speeds are pretty much the same as on my laptop.

Do you think going with the lesser N600 model of this would work sufficiently?

you could look for reviews.

It appears as if the N600 model will do the trick based on the reviews. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be buying that one shortly! :)
