Hey, on my first 290X it's currently idling at 62 C. I know they're supposed to be hot, but this is pretty crazy... How high are they supposed to go to?

also, does anyone know the fan control software that lets you change each fan speed individually?

Can you please provide some information on the exact model of your GPU and maybe a picture of your system? Your ambient temperature does also matter.

It's a Lightning 290X from MSI, and it's hot because it's in crossfire and it doesn't have much room to breathe I think

What is the fanspeed at? That's about what my 480 used to be like, but it was also a refrence cooler...

It's currently at 45

Ah, crossfire. what's the spacing between cards look like. Not much room to breathe could be the issue.

literally you could barely fit a piece of paper between it

probably, how hot are they supposed to go to under load?

Giving that fact in to consideration, it's probably normal to have that high idle temp, especially if you have a micro ATX case. How many cards do you have running in crossfire?

two atm, I also have an intake fan to help em out

btw, maybe I could put the second card on the 3rd PCIe slot. I have the M5A99X Evo R2.0

but the problem is, if I put the lightning on the 3rd slot it will hit the PSU. What case has enough room for it?

not only that issue

the black PCI-E slot at the bottom of the board is only a PCI-E 2.0 x4

not exactly a good idea to place a high en GPU on a slow slot when the 290X uses the PCI-E lanes for data transfer between the 2 GPUs and to the CPU

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

What do you think I should do? I have 120 bucks to try doing something. I was thinking of getting a Kraken G10, but I'm not sure if it would fit

Its REALLY bad. With 100 percent fan speed its hitting 95 after a few minutes of battlefield 3

you can try the G10 mod with the top GPU and see if the temps will help

make sure your cards get plenty of cool air

ya, they get like none at all. Cable management is nonexistent and the side fan lacks any power. I think I should get the air 540, because I don't think the G10 would fit my card

The G10 should fit the card the mounting for the bracket is standard. You could use your H60 for the gpu cooler and get an air cooler for the cpu.

how do I remove the backplate though? I'm guessing there is probably just screws. I'm also worried about the LEDS, they are SUPER bright even with the backplate on :/

Hmm i not sure about that most will keep the backplate for the gpu to be more rigid to reduce gpu sag.

Ok i will help you look for a solution for the G10 mod. In the worst case you might need to run only one gpu until you get the 540 air.

I have G10's on both of my 290's, and one of them has the Asus DCU2 backplate still attached. it was a tighter fit, but the screws were still long enough. temps are hilariously low on both though.

I can BARELY fit another h55 and two G10s in my budget, so I would have to get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103107

Would it suffice?

It not really a good model. You need to look at the 212 Evo or Plus. Either one will be good 19.9 to 26 dollar cooler. Oh WoodenMarker linked a deal on a similar cooler like the 212 for 19.9 in the deals section from NCIX. You can get that. Also I will suggest water cool the top GPU first before you go for dual config. As for the G10 bracket. The screws in the packaging may not be long enough after searching and some resorted to over tightening causing the card or gpu to crack. NZXT webstore has both the bracket and longer screws on sale and you can also email them on installation questions. Hope this helps.
