Old Ram memory for a new computer

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,
I have old DDR3 from my laptop but It should be good for PC, right?

Laptops use SO-DIMMs. They won't fit.

Hi guys. I have a little problem with buying a new computer. I want to buy a decent stuff but don't want to pay too much. I want to buy
1. gigabyte geforce gtx 970
2. intel i5-4590 3.3G
3.Asrock z97 anniversary
4. some power supplier

I have case, hdd and 8Gb 1333Mhz of ram. I thought about buying 1866Mhz but I'm not sure if It is woth It. Linus showed in his video It doesn't have a greatt impact on FPS but in what case It will have? I wont use 4k resolution, I record a clips from games and edit them.
I want to save money and Im looking for possibilities by using my older parts but I don't want to lower my new PC performance too much.

To clear things up, I won't buy more then 8GB of ram. I'm wondering if I can use 1333Mhz ram without a noticeable drop of performance or I should buy a 1866.

just because it's 1333Mhz doesnt mean its old. ram is ram its mostly all the same just make sure that the ram can be used together and make sure it is DDR3 and the difference between ram speeds is pretty much impossible to see in gaming anyways

The difference between 1333 and 1866mhz ram is negligible for gaming with a graphics card.

My system uses 1333 RAM and it runs perfectly fine, including in games.

WOW. So many reponses in such little time. What a great community.

I understand It won't have a big influence in games but when It will be usfull to have 1866Mhz and higher frequency?

Theres no noticeable difference in games between 1333 & 1866. Depending on your ram you might even be able to overclock it to 1600...

It's technically better but the difference for the most part is unnoticeable.
