Plain and simple. Can I run 2 LG 34UM95 monitors on a single 980? Or do I need to run 2 way sli?

Define "run". They can be powered, yes. But if you want to game on 1440p on a AAA title with settings completely maxed... then no, you'll need more power.

No. But that's because you need three monitors for surround. Unless you mean just generally and not... like... together? In which case you can do that with pretty much anything with ports.

Not necessarily for surround since its only 2 monitors but I do a lot of 3d modeling and cad for work. So not so much worried about any surround support.

As mentioned above, yes a little gaming but nothing heavy. More of a workhorse than a gaming rig. But for gaming, would the 980 be good enough for 1 monitor? (asking for future reference)

If you mean to say that you'll be gaming on just one of them, but expanding your desktop across two and using them for productivity then yeah, it'll handle that just fine.

^This.
