new to water cooling

Go to solution Solved by Spev,

OK, im going to make my first water cooling loop.

will consist of cpu block, and dual 180mm rad.

i dont understand pump/res stuff.

anyone want to show me a good pump and res from frozencpu, thats pretty cheap, would perfer to not spend too much money.

all i want to know is pump and res. i got cpu block and rad under controll

EDIT:

good tubing size too, whats the norm?

To answer your last question, the most common sizes are 3/8ID and 5/8OD, along with 7/16ID 5/8OD. These are the 2 most common, although there are many tubing sizes. Personally I would go with 3/8ID and 5/8OD, reason behind it is because personally I think this is the most popular size, and as a result there are more products for this size. I was originally using 7/16ID 5/8OD but due there being much more products for the 3/8ID 5/8OD tubing I switched. Honestly though either will do you just fine, the ID of the tubing doesn't affect performance really, hope this helped.

A $50 pump and a $15-20 reservoir is enough. you can pay extra bucks for more life span on your pump.

so would the one i linked have good life?

If you're going to be watercooling do yourself a favour and buy a D5 pump and be done with it, it's more cost effective in the long run as you will use it for years to come. Combine a D5 with a Res of the size you need, res size isn't relative to performance, the more coolant you have the longer it will take to heat up and it will so you're not gaining anything from using more of it.

I'm not so sure on that, the size of the tubing will effect how much restriction there is on the loop and other stuff too.

Here, read this for picking the right pump etc.

D5 is considered one of the best, there are other pumps to choose from. You're probably better getting some non biased advice from here.

Even the smaller tubing sizes like 3/8" ID usually have about the same ID than the G1/4" fittings have on their inside, so even with larger diameter tubing, water has to go through these narrow points. Differences for the common tubngs sizes is mainly looks, not necessarily flow rate or restriction, IMO.
