Finalizing new audio setup...thoughts?

Hey guys,

Posted in the Audio section about 10 hours ago asking for some suggestions from people on some headphones with specific features I want: open back headphones and cloth material on the ear cups, along with having good sound for games such as CS:GO so I can more easily pinpoint locations of footsteps.

I think my choices are down to these headphones:

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro - http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-DT-990-Pro-250-Professional-Acoustically-Applications/dp/B0011UB9CQ

Sennheiser HD 518 - http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-518-Headphones-Black/dp/B0042A68R8

Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X - http://www.amazon.com/Technica-AUD-ATHAD500X-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B009S333U4

Sennheiser HD 558 - http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-558-Headphones/dp/B004FEEY9A

Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X - http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-AD700X-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B009S332TQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1419752460&sr=1-1&keywords=ad700x

Sennheiser HD 598 - http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-598-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B0042A8CW2

AKG K612 Pro - http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Pro-Audio-K612PRO-Reference/dp/B00DCXZY1W

I won't have a DAC/amp to run any of these headsets through until the summer when I'm home from school and I can get a job for some income, so as long as the headphones are still useable without those two things I don't mind somewhat poor audio quality for a while. *cough* DT 990 Pro 250 ohms *cough*

Now for my second part. I'll be using an AntLion ModMic 4.0 most likely. For those of you that have them/have heard them, would you say they're acceptable mic quality if I wanted to upload occasional gameplay videos with voice to YouTube? I don't really want to make someone's ears bleed with a terrible mic.

So, with that being said, which of these headphones would you suggest (or if you absolutely need to recommend something else, just make sure it has my above requirements and it's <$200 please) and would you say the ModMic is a good buy for what my uses will be?

Thanks a ton.

I'd say Sennheiser HD 518 (not 558 or 598) or the ATH-AD500x for le gaming would be the most responsible recommendations. However I'm partial to Beyers so I'd say go for the DT 990 Pro. You're unlikely to need an amp with that mobo.

Okay, cool. Thanks!

Yeah, I guess I left out the cheaper but still good counterparts for these headsets. I'm upgrading from Turtle Beaches so I'm pretty sure anything will be a significant upgrade, haha. :P

Since you recommended some Audio-Technicas, would you happen to have experience with the AD5/7/900X and the unique headband it uses? If so, how is it?

Edit: Just added those two headsets to my OP for the sake of others considering them as well. :P

No personal experience, but it seems to work better with larger than average heads. Plenty of people around here have tried them, hopefully they can give you a better idea.

Yeah. If only Audio-Technical did something normal and used a tried and true headband design. They'd probably get a lot more people using/buying them.
