Extending my display PROBLEM

So i got a new BenQ xl2411z for christmas and hooked it up to my computer, set it as my main display and extended onto my old monitor. I wanted to show somebody the difference between 144hz and 60hz, so i duplicated the display and ran the game. It worked fine, the resolution was a little goofy because my new monitor is 1920x1080 and the old one was 1680x1050. I finished showing, closed the game then i had to leave for dinner, i set it back to extend and left. When i came back there was just a black screen across both monitors... I restarted, same thing. I'm suck because when i first plugged in the monitor it was fine but now its not. Any advice would be appreciated!
