Hey guys, I just wanted to ask, is there any way to remove ISP throttling? When using utorrent throughout the day, from morning to about 8pm, speed is fine, approximately 1mbps downloading, which is normal for my plan. However, at night after 8pm, the speed goes to 150kbps or so. This happens every single day, and is really pissing me off. Is there any way to bypass this guys?

Well 8pm is the average normal time for people to be getting on their home computers after work so your throttling issues might not actually be throttling its more than likely multiple people on the same broadband switch as you. Say a single switch has a capability for 50mbps but there are 6 houses on said switch, the switch would divide that 50mbps by however many active users are on at that time so if all 6 are active meaning they are using their internet that 50mbps max becomes 8.34mbps per home. The only way around that would be to get Fiber since all cable/dsl connections share public switches but Fiber each home has its own switch so it retains maximum speed more consistently.

Nah, no one else in my home uses much internet, it's just my parents and I, and they don't really use the internet, so.. I reckon they are throttling the internet, is there any way to bypass it?

Its not in home use its other homes on your street that shares that switch not just a household but many households. Back when I had roadrunner with bright house there were 10 homes on my streets broadband switch and my package was 25mbps download and 5mbps upload but every evening after 6 or 7 that 25mbps would throttle down to around 10-15mbps which was due to so many people on my street using the internet at the same time the switch had to throttle each household to allow capacity for all the homes using at that time.

Yes in home use is a factor but other homes on the block is even more of a factor than in home use is.

The only solution I know to this issue would be to petition your isp to install a larger switch for the homes on your street since you are getting throttled by it or change isp's

Alright I have checked it out. They state that they throttle it intentionally, so that just pisses me off more. Is there any way at all to not be throttled?

Nope especially if they state it in your service contract that between certain hours. The only way is to get a new isp

Hey Flamer,

It would depend on the type of throttling they are doing, If they are just throttling a specific type of traffic you could use a VPN service to hide that type of traffic.

I am not condoning illegal traffic workarounds, I use a VPN when I am out of the UK to keep up on the local TV sites that would not be accessible to me otherwise.
