Molex to PCI-E

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

Thanks :D I looked it up and it says that the third connector is optional. Should I just leave it alone, or should I plug it in anyways? I think it might look better with all three in

I would leave it alone and use 2 8pins for the time being and see how that goes.

ya not the best idea, but I really don't want to cough out anymore cash. So, my PSU has x4 8 Pin PCI-E cables. The R9 290X needs two 8 Pins and one 6 Pin. (I'll be running two in Crossfire) I was thinking of giving two 8 pins to each, and then using a molex to PCI-E 6 pin for the two remaining power connectors. I'm not overclocking or anything

Take a closer look at the 8 pins. They should be 6+2 pins.

You can make the 8 pin to 6+2 pin.

I know, but I thought it would be more efficient to use the 8 pins and then to adapt the 6 pins I need instead of adapting the molex to 8 pins which would probably require more juice. I need 6 in total (2x 6 Pin, 4x 8 Pin) and I only have 4 6+2 cables atm

What PSU is it? And is the 6-pin connector required? Sometimes it's optional for if you want to OC it far.

Edit: Oh, I misread.

That could work.

XFX 850W XXX Edition, it's silver I believe. And I'm not sure, it's a Lightning 290X. I'll try to scavenge google for it :)

You shouldn't need to adapt anything. The 6+2pins plug into the 8 pins.

There is 6 ports I need to fill silly :P I only have 4 Cables in general. I was going to use those things that let you get an extra PCI-E cable by using molex connectors
