Pebble Steel notification help

Hey my brother just got the Pebble Steel for Christmas but he can only see incoming calls from the watch. I've tried sending him messages from both iMessage and regular text but his phone is not even getting the regular texts.

He has a iPhone 4 with IOS 7, if anyone knows how to navigate this watch well I'd appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

this latest app update is little buggy and have you done the notifications test? force quit the app or shutdown pebble and turn back on

Yes, the test works but he hasn't tried force quitting the app and turning on and off the watch.
