'Up at', 'down at' 'hook up' etc

I just can't get used to the use of these phrases, :D Americans are so weird sometimes when it comes to language imo, often times they say these things, say Logan from Teksyndicate, he always says 'from the people down at' (followed by a company name) or 'up at'. Is the company up in the sky? Down underground?

There is also 'hooking you guys up', I mean...... Are We fish? Do we bite on hooks when we get free stuff?

I know this is normal in American language but I always found them... Weird to say the least. Well not weird, how can I put it... 'Not graceful' sounding phrases

Not hating at all, just can't really get my head around it despite every country having their own phrases and all.

Errr.... I think too much about word choices..

I like this pattern of conversation:

"Are you up for this?"

"Yeah I'm down for this."

It seems so normal growing up with American English, but it's also really easy to see where it gets difficult for non native speakers to learn

Yeah, I mean, I speak English extremely well but I am not used to the American way of speaking very much. I do know what most things mean thanks to watching shows and looking up definitions, but still find it odd because in actual UK English they don't use those phrases.

It's interchangable.

We also say it in Britain, and we're talking Britain in the 40s and 50s, not just today.

To be fair, not hook up. But down at and up at certainly
