possible bottlenecking

Hello

On the moment I'm thinking about getting a GTX 970. However, I'm not sure if anything in my current system could cause a bottleneck. What do you guys think?

Specs:

CPU: i5-2320

GPU: Sapphire HD 7950 3GB

RAM: 4GB

Motherboard: MS-7728 (It's from a prebuilt Medion PC)

PSU: XFX Pro 550W

It shouldn't bottleneck at all, if it does it'll likely be very minor.

Yes you might get a bottleneck for your RAM and your cpu, i'd upgrade the RAM to 8gbs but your CPU should only be a minor issue.

It wouldnt be too bad according to me.

The best and most cost efficient way of keeping a gaming rig up to date is to go overkill on each upgarde.


But right now id say the best upgrade would be getting 8gb of 1600Mhz(or higher) RAM.

Hmm I see, but I will see an actual difference in performance right?

I do have money to get some extra RAM but a CPU upgrade would be too much.

8gb bare minmum these days.
game like cod A|W use close to 8gb of ram.
cpu is still decent enough for a 760(960 soon).
not sure about 970,r9 290.
i think u should just wait to skylake to upgrade cpu.

In really CPU-intensive games it might be bottlenecked, but in a lot of games your GPU (970) would be the bottleneck.

I would totally go for the 970 or 290. You can always upgrade mobo/ram/CPU later, and then your 970 would be the bottleneck. Then i would probably SLI the 970 and so on...

That's what i like about desktop computers. You upgrade over time, always removing a weak point.

Why upgrade from a 7950? The 7950 can still max out anything. A waste of money. I would use the 7950 until it becomes too outdated to play anything at at least medium settings.

It can max everything out but in most games it won't be a solid 60fps.

I'm probably going to wait till GTA V comes out and I'll be upgrading my RAM before getting a new GPU.

This cpu will still limit the performance of a GTX970 if you play at 1080p in some games...but overall it think it's fine to get the card and maybe upgrade later.
