Yes

So I was looking at the Chromecast recently when it came up for offer, and it was at a reasonable price(For my country), so I was wondering if it was worth purchasing one, for media and other stuff

you can stream your desktop

 

and hdmi-cec (it can switch input automatically)

Can I remote play? Like my desktop will run the game, but I can view the display on my TV?

It is worth it if you can adhere to the following:

 

It it needs to be relatively close to your wifi signal (router or AP) compared to other wireless devices if you want to experience good quality.  

 

If you find it is being temperamental you can just reboot it via the Chromecast app on your phone or unplug it and plug it back in again.

Erm, it has to be close to the router? Well.. That is going to be an issue.. But I may scrap getting one, if I am able to get one offer for a Android Wear watch for cheap, though nothing is final, but the router distance may be a small issue
