3d mark 3 970 Oc

Here is what i end up with happy with the result since this is all i need to game at 60 fps 1080p. Still shocks that this rig ( i5 4440 + 970) can beat a i7 4770k + Titan rig though.

After 2 long weeks of waiting my zotac 970 finally arrive today after replacing my 270x with it it ran 3dmark firestrike on it to see how much faster it is compare to my 270x. And the result is what i expected the 970 score almost 3000 more point then the 270x but this is at stock speed i haven't touch anything on my 970 yet. I'm not very familiar about oc with nvidia since with amd i just use overdrive because it is build into the driver. I know about msi after burner but i want a program to remember my oc setting and applied it when i turn my pc on so i don't have to turn the setting myself. Also what is a good and stable oc for this card ?

Here are the firestrike score if you are interested : 270x  http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5117221

MSI Afterburner has an option to save and apply overclocks on system startup. A lot of people get around an additional 150-200+ on the core clock and a good 300-400+ on the memory clock when OCing the 970.

Yeah i know about that option but i heard that some people encounter that problem that after burner didn't always apply the oc when you start window so i'm not to keen on using it. After toying around with it i got my 970 up to 1515 for the gpu and the memory up to 2005. I ran furmark for about 5 min and the hottest temp for the card is 81 c is that too high ? and is my oc stable and good enough ?

81c is fine actually. i think nvidia cards are pretty good up to 90c~ but i wouldn't run them that hot. the oc being stable depends on if you get artifacts or if you actually lose performance with higher clocks (happened to me a few times, clocking too high and not having the power delivery can mess with your performance). 2005 as in 8GHz? just by toying around? cause that seems pretty good. run some benches.

I'm running at stock now because of some reason when running benchmarks it run smooth as butter but when i load up Dragon age: I it crash and show this message DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG: Device hung due to badly formed commands and now matter what i try i can't get the game to work even when running at stock. So i just reinstall my driver and the game run normally again ( thank god ) . I might tinker around with it more one day but right now im gonna enjoy my game .

Hey!

Something you'll learn along the way is that every card is different and has individual capabilites of overclocking. There

is no general stable clock for cards or cores, it's most likely always different.

OnT: If you're running a stock bios at the card simply crank the voltage up to maximum. It's such a small difference when

you're running stock bios that it wont really matter but it might give you a few MHz in the end. After that make sure that

you have heat as priority and put it around 90 degrees celsius. Higher or lower depending how ballsy you are. After that

you're basically set. Start increasing the core clock speed slightly until it starts to throttle. After that you can start to fiddle

with the memory. It's a very long and time consuming the get the maximum out of your card, especially on air cooling.

When I overclocked my Titan Black I simply increased it to what I new was a max clock that people got with it without flashing

the bios of the card and fiddled with it up and down until I got it stable and then I was set. Fiddling with the memory clock is

a whole other story. Find some decent guides on that before you start messing with it.

Good luck!
