Hey guys, so I have a weird buzzing noise but only in games. So I did a bit of cable management earlier and when I went to play Batman Arkham Asylum I heard a weird buzzing. I muted my headphones and it was still there. I closed the game and it was gone. Started a YouTube video and there was nothing. Started Saints Row IV and it was back. It only happens when I play games, and when the games get to the start menu. My motherboard is the Gigabyte F2A88X-D3H, and my headphones are HyperX Clouds. I've uninstalled and re-installed Realtek HD Audio Drivers to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: It seems to come up any time my GPU is being used.

Hmmm .. can you try a USB headset to see if the buzzing is present?

Also, try a different wired headset and plug it into the motherboard ports and see how it goes .. it can be either the motherboard or the headset you were using

No USB headset on me. I've done some research and people say it's because of interference from the GPU. Know of any way to solve this?

Check this out:

1) It is possible that your other computer also has some interference issues. A LOT of onboard audio devices exhibit this interference pattern. Newer boards have a lot less of this, but all my older boards when combined with headphones leaks some form of interference.

2) Your TV probably has a low resolution sound system, so you can't hear it, or the sound is internally filtered (as in not full range coming from the speakers).

3) When you close a game, I suspect the GPU is clocking down, and this introduces high frequency harmonics in the power lines and on the GPU (spikes) when the GPU suddenly reduces its power consumption. But with proper motherboard design and layout, this shouldn't be an issue, at least not anymore...

4) That whine you hear on the graphics card is likely just fan or inductor coil whine.

It seems, at this point, if you want to get rid of the interference, you should use an external sound card of some sort... The internal looks like it has the ground channel heavily contaminated

Edit 2: I didn't have this before I did cable management, I hear noises when I move my mouse. So I have interference from my mouse too. Why did all this interference come about?

my board has the same issue when audio is plugged in,many gigabyte boards have this issue,i havent been able to find a solution for this in the past three years, the only thing you can do is use an external sound card ..... internal faces the same issue ... but my external siberia soundcard dosent

I didn't have this before, so I'm not gonna take that for an answer. It has to be fixable.

yeah... only the high end boards don't have this issue

It wasn't happening before though and it didn't happen when running on board graphics.

see the third answer in the quote below

But why would this happen now, and not earlier. I'm also starting to notice what I believe is coil whine.

coild whine is is pretty common, the thing it wasn't happening earlier was because you were using onboard gpu....

No I've been using my R9 280 since November, and I haven't had this problem. I removed the card to to see if the noise was from the card and it was. The coil whine isn't noticeable unless I put my ear up to the card. The noise I'm hearing is interference from the card to my headphones, which wasn't there until yesterday. The only thing I changed was that I removed a fan.

I have the same problem, an external soundcard or USB headset will solve this.
