Sounds like it could be a bad ground somewhere as well. But it's not a good sound... Did you try using DVI or HDMI?

it doesn't happen always so changing cables might be a long shot. The sound stops if you tun the display off and turn it back on.

I had some weird issues with my Asus P238A and DisplayPort. On occasion just the Asus display (I have an old HP 1600x900 display as secondary) would have moire-like problems when waking from sleep or on boot. Never had any issues on the HP display, so I figured it was the monitor. Turning it off and on again would fix it. I switched to a DVI connection and it hasn't happened since. What GPU do you have? In Googling about it, it seems that Nvidia cards have random issues with DisplayPort.

I have a gtx970 i disabled the speaker on the monitor and haven't heard the sound yet. if it happens again i will try chainging the cable.
