Go to solution Solved by Benji_w,

ill post the screenshot

Ok buddy, I found this it seems we share a common problem in that AMD don't use the same way of working out their temps as intel does and we get incorrect data.

Please read this!

so i wan prime 95 today, and it said my CPu was running at 90c, needless to say i got scared shitless and shut everything down, in fear that i would damage my chip, so in case it was wrong i downloaded CoreTemp, and it said it was running at 40c, i found it odd and when stress testing with aida64 it was at 50, so odds are that HWmonitor was on drugs right??

If you're using has well CPUs Dont use prime95, it over volts it. Use aida64, prime over volts the CPU and heats it up crazy. Not good to use.

Please use HWinfo64 for accurate thermal readings, Coretemp and HWmonitor have both given me bogus temps so wouldn't believe either one.

As for what to stress test with, I find Intel burn test AVX to be a good way of testing CPU stability (standard setting) then some ram and other with the CPU (high) then you can go for uber stress (very high which tests ram harder and more of it) then maximum which will use all available ram, cream the CPU and all your other settings. IBT AVX also has a hidden Extreme setting by right clicking on the start test button.

ok on hwinfo64 the cpu temps say 40 but the CPU 0 package says 90..., care for a screenshot?

Package is the actual CPU, CPU temp is the socket for FX CPUs not sure on APUs but would think it is the same, if it isn't getting hotter than 40c on the socket then that might not be a correct reading as from my experience socket temp is always within the range of the actual CPU.

Sorry I meant to say incorrect, 40 at the socket then 90 at the cpu itself doesn't seem realistic, let me ask on OCN for you and I'll report back with my findings.

No thank you, I learned something new about APU chips from answering your problem while learning a bit more on how AMD works out temps so I thank you for that. I wish you the best in your overclocking success.  :D
