Mod Mic 4.0 help

I purchased a Mod Mic 4.0 a few days ago and I had to set the boost to 30.0dB because it was so low, but even with the boost set so high it still sounds far away and is very low sounding overall. It is plugged into the back port and the OS is Windows 8.1 pro. Any ideas as to what I can do to help it sound better?

Are you using programmes such as Skype? By default, they can change the microphone level without you knowing. There should be an option for 'enable programmes to alter level' or something like that under mic settings.

I am using Skype, but under audio settings in the microphone setting the volume is turned up all the way for my end. And soundcloud is really low to when I record things with the microphone.

Do you have a sound card or something along those lines? I read from quite a few people that they had problems (like static) and it resolved its self when they got one.
