So, I asked for a good build for heavy gaming and light to mid video editing, and I got this:

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($241.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Motherboard: MSI H97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($83.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($124.99 @ Newegg)

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($97.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($239.99 @ Newegg)

Case: NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($65.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Power Supply: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($44.99 @ Newegg)

Total: $899.93

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

However, this is more expensive than I would like, and is for heavy video editing. What will be a good edit for this build so it was just as good as gaming and a little lighter on video editing, and a bit cheaper?

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

Wouldn't I want to keep the better graphics card? What if I cut down on ram?

I think you're gonna want an SSD boot/programs drive on a build like this.

I'm not an expert when it comes to team red, but this seems like a very decent way to shave a few bucks:

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($134.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H55 57.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($54.98 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($98.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card  ($234.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: NZXT H230 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $835.77
