R9 290 Black Screen.

Go to solution Solved by Fate,

Temps? You can use something like MSI Afterburner to monitor them.

Did you fully uninstall your previous drivers? You can use "Display Driver Uninstaller" to do this.

Is your card properly in its PCI-E slot?

Just a few things to try.

I have an r9 290 vapor x and windows 8.1 pro. Every other boot or so, the screen will go black after awhile. I've tried this with 2 different monitors and it does the same thing. I've reinstalled the amd drivers and it did the same thing. I can still use windows but i can't see anything. I know this because I was watching a video then it went black, then i moved my mouse to the top right corner and closed it. When the screen goes black it still says it detects a dvi signal.

My max gpu temp gets to 70c and I have used ddu to uninstall amd drivers. I will try reinstalling the gpu possibly. I just now realized that new amd drivers came out on the 8th so ill try installing that. Thanks for the suggestions.

I installed the new amd drivers and it seemed to fix the problem thanks. Btw: I noticed it says "120GB V300 SSD (please do not buy this SSD)". I was going to get that for christmas rofl, but i ended up asking for an intel 530.

Glad everything worked out.

Yea the 120GB version gets around 170/80  and the 240GB gets around 250-300/150, my MX100 gets around 500/330.

The V300's are also apparently really unreliable, though mine hasn't had any problems yet.
