Hello everyone.

I plan on changing from my i5 650 to a new platform in the next few weeks.

I have two options :

Intel Core i5 4670 non-k + Asrock H87 Fatal1ty Performance

Intel Core i5 3570k + Z77 Board (110/130€) - And later a H100i or a High-end Air-cooler.

What is the best option ? And why ?

Do you mean 4670K, or just standard 4670? If it's the 4670K, I'd go with that purely because it's the newest platform and there's hopes that there will be more generations on Socket 1150, meaning more chances for future upgrades.

Also, about 10% in performance from previous generation 3570K.

The new  Intel 87 Chipset offers more than the previous generation, they have more SATA3 Ports, more USB 3.0 ports and the overall design is better.

But it also depends on what type of board you get, a high end Z77 board is most likely to be better than a low end H87 board.

The Haswell also has a 10% performance increase, but if you get a 3570k with a NH-D14 you'll easily be able to overclock to 4.5Ghz which will probably be the same as Haswell, or even higher.

You are comparing a 3570k overclocked with a 4670k stock right?

Don't forget the 4670k can also be overclocked! Maybe you have got to have more luck in the silicon lottery, but about 80% of the chips are overclockable to 4Ghz, beating the 3570k :-)

Yes I know that, but if he selects a 87 Chipset he won't be overclocking, because he's getting the H87 version.

He is selecting the h87 chipset because he chose for a 4670 non-k.

If he can find another €20 to spend, he can get an overclocking ready motherboard with a 4670k :)

The haswell stuff is better in any way (imo) because it is a new socket & chipset, Intel won't be changing this for another 2-3 years, there is a 10% performance improvement @ stock speeds, less power consumption (if you care about this), more sata3, more usb3, ...

True I guess. But according to Intel's Roadmap, the next processor will be the Skylake in terms of new architecture. the next revamp of the Haswell will be the Broadwell. So yeah, we won't see much until Skylake.

I'm sorry for keeping bugging you guys , but I just don't know what to do.

I can get :

Asrock H87 Performance + i5 4670 (non-k) = 310€

MSI Z87-G45 Gaming (or Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H)+ i5 4670k = 375€

I can go to 400€ if it's really worth it.

But my question : is it really worth it to go for a OC ready platform ? What benefits will I have in the short and long run ? ( I want to keep these component for atleast 3 years)

Thanks everyone  :)

If you are keeping it for at least 3 years you should be fine with a non-overclocked cpu. If you want to use it longer like 5 years or more, then I would suggest you to get an unlocked cpu.
