EVGA FTW edition IMO, got a nice binned chip which I could OC. If you don't want to overclock go for it because it has the highest base clock.

I had just gotten my Asus Strix GTX 970 4 days ago. Was an upgrade from a XFX 5850HD so the difference in power i felt was insane. Overclocked it so base clock is 1375mhz & memory is 7700mhz. I tried it with games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2/3, Battlefield 3/4, Diablo 3 RoS & The Crew, all with max settings (ultra @ 1080p) and it ran really well. I am still waiting for Crysis 3 to be downloaded and still thinking whether should i try the latest Modern Warfare: Advance Warfare. During idle and on simple games like Dota 2, fans won't spin as temperature won't go above 60c, and mind you, i'm living in a tropical country where its >36c all year around. Overall, brilliant card.

Bad thing it's not a big deal but it's a nice addition

no the backplate is a good thing ;) it stops the GPU form sagging and putting unnecessary strain on the PCI-e slot but its not a big deal if you dont have it

I want to go for a 970, too. But I can't decide which one I should pick. I've compared all the retailer's Graphicscard's and I can't find a big difference in performance. So I am asking myself which one has the best durability and lowest noice level. And since I've heard about those "coil whine" problems I wonder which retailer offers the best in being quiet. Have you already made some experience? And which one would you recommend?

I've been watching all of the videos Linus put out on his YouTube channel and I still think the Asus is the best one yet. I'm good at figuring out things, if I locate where the whining is coming from I'll post it here and on YouTube. I think it's a pci vibration or a fan isn't balanced right in the housing

I don't think it's a poor based fan. If it would be a poor based fan, every retailer would've done a mistake with the fan. That would be pretty uncommon.

As far as I know it's because of vibrations and some electronic components. I've read about it here :

http://www.computerbase.de/2014-10/nvidia-geforce-gtx-970-test-roundup-vergleich/4/

Sorry - It's german only. If you scroll down, there's a table where you can find the noise levels. Here's a translated picture :

As you see, every retailer has problems with coil whine. Some have pretty high coil whine, others have low coil whine.
