HDMI or VGA

I have a y510p laptop that I want to connect to a monitor. I don't know if I should use HDMI or VGA.

Use HDMI if you want the best reliability and image quality that won't degrade(bad VGA cables can mess things up).

Use VGA to have a open HDMI port on your monitor.

Can I get a VGA or dvi to hdmi adapter and Connect it on the Monitor and connect the HDMI from the adapter to my laptop?

use what ever you want. in blind tests its pretty hard to tell the difference between VGA and HDMI

So you want to use the HDMI out put on your laptop and the VGA or DVI input on your monitor? If to then HDMI to DVI cables exist, and will work fine(sound might not be supported). I wouldn't recommend using VGA though.

If your monitor has an HDMI input, then use a straight HDMI-to-HDMI cable.  If your monitor has a DVI input, use an HDMI-to-DVI cable.
