Here is my workflow in Adobe Lightroom:

  1. Download RAW camera images (16-64Gb in files ~10Mb in size)
  2. Delete non-leepers
  3. Post-process in Lightroom (Program drive and library are on an SSD)
  4. Export in DNG (~24Mb) and JPG (~1.5Mb) formats to NAS
  5. Delete RAW images from scratch drive.

As I understand it, an SSD is faster at random read-write, particularly for smaller files.  However, my application is dealing with larger files and more of a sequential application.

With that application in mind, I am considering one of three options:

  1. Samsung 840 250Gb
  2. Velociraptor 500GB
  3. 2x Velociraptor 250Gb in Raid 0

Given the application, I am looking for the fastest way to get large files off a drive sequentially.

Thanks

chad

The 840 will give you the best performance, even sequentially.

Yep. Not cheap if you need a lot of storage though!
