I have recently build my first system, with the only thing missing a SSD and a second monitor.

I am fine with the boot times, because I havn't installed much, and when I need to do something on it,

i am not in a hurry.

A second monitor has been praised for the thing you can do with it, for multi-tasking and productivity stuff.

But, it is a bit more expensive than a standard SSD.

What it your choice? What made you nerdgasm more, a SSD or a second monitor?

If you have a laptop/tablet you can use for multitasking then an ssd, otherwise a monitor.

Probably second monitor, even though SSD's are amazing and I would never have a PC without one again, a 2nd monitor is sooooooooo useful more so than a SSD imo

Monitor for sure because u get used to ssd quickly and forget about it. And especially for u if up to 20sec difference is not an issue then theres nothing to think about just get a nice cheap 23-24 inch monitor when u see one on discount :)

Add ssd later but u will have to install windows all over again since moving it from hdd to ssd can take very long and is not worth (Linus said it, must be true heh).

Or treat yourself for Xmass and get both as many SSDs go on sale :) i myself picked up 256gb ssd for cost of 120gb.

So keep an eye out for discounts.

I don't have a second monitor, so take this with a grain of salt. I remember the first time I installed an SSD and I can't imagine going back to the speeds I had before. I would say you would notice the difference of an SSD more.

However, this depends on the monitor that you currently have. If you have a 5 year old 1080p TN monitor like myself, upgrading that to a nice 27" IPS 1440p monitor would be even more noticeable. My friend just did that and I have been ramping up my deal hunting after seeing it.

The bottom line is that I'd choose the SSD first, if you have a nice monitor already. If you don't, then I'd get a better monitor first, whether you use the old one as a secondary display or not.

Yes. he would notice the difference of an ssd more if hes just using one monitor, but having a second monitor with which productivity is increased drastically. I have two monitors and a laptop and I still could benefit from having more screen space.

That would also depend on the usage of the system. If it's for high end gaming, then I'd prefer going with a single 27" or 30" screen over a multi monitor set up because I don't like staring at bezels and that way you can invest more money into a monitor with better picture/colour reproduction. If the system is being used in an office type of set up and there are a lot of documents open all the time, then the two or three monitor set up would be worth while.

I could only stand multiple monitors for a couple years. If you have a well ventilated work area, it might not be as much of an issue as I experienced. I'd rather have a higher resolution single monitor. I don't think I could go back to a HDD for everything though.

My "only" monitor at the moment is a Samsung S22C300, so yes, a few years old 1080p TN monitor. If I could, i would buy a 1440p monitor, I just don't have the money at the moment.

That would also depend on the usage of the system. If it's for high end gaming, then I'd prefer going with a single 27" or 30" screen over a multi monitor set up because ... I would be mostly using it for gaming, and then some documentery.

I think i'm going to save some money and buy a 1440p monitor, and use my current monitor as a second one.

Thanks everyone for the help you've been giving me! *thumps up*
