I use a Surface Pro 3 (i5/128GB variant) and while it's a bit over the $1000 price it's no doubt an amazing looking computer/tablet/thing as it's super light and a 1440p touch screen is very welcomed. However the photo and video editing may be this computer's down point.

Honestly, I'd recommend a Macbook Air if you wanted a clamshell style laptop. Can't beat it.

I just ordered that model without the type cover for $999 so it would be a bit over budget but that is truly the best school option in my opinion.

Minus the fact I had to RMA mine 2 weeks into ownership :P

And I got mine for $800 with Typecover, Back to school sale ;)

How does the 4GB ram hold up? Is it OK? I thought it had 8 when I bought it.

Currently have 3 word documents, a power point, One note, Skype and 11 chrome tabs open. Nothing noticable - just not good for games (amazing at steam inhome streaming though)
