Why'd you install a 64-bit operating system on a laptop designed for 32-bit?

well because it works :D

The update process for windows is 32-bit, but the BIOS it installs is always bit-transparent and can boot either 32 and 64-bit OSes.

Try shouting at it incoherently.

In reality though, a 64-bit OS should theoretically work (albeit running in 32-bit mode). In all likelihood, the CPU is 32 bit only, if the CPU is 32 bit, then there is absolutely NO WAY to get full 64-bit support on the machine

Because a BIOS doesn't need different versions for each x-bit architecture. It's bit-agnositc, so to say.

I'm just explaining why they don't have one (mobo manufactures still put 64-bit BIOS updates in sometimes even though it technically doesn't matter)

Is the bios update super necessary or can you just not update, because 32 bit is the only way i see you getting it to work. Good luck though!

I run my own indie game company called Color Dragon Studios where we are currently making a 2d platformer game called Small Earth.

I think some people here are assuming that a bios update on all laptops can be done like on desktop motherboards.

Actually few laptops can do that, and most of the time, its picky to get it to work.

The problem that the OP can be:

- The BIOS updater for Windows is a 16-bit program, and 16-bit programs can't run under Windows 64-bit, as support has been pulled out. Manufcature doesn't care in updating their age old Windows 9x BIOS updater.

- The BIOS updater is poorly coded and check for 32-bit version of Windows

- The BIOS updater uses a driver only available in 32-bit, probably due to the driver security system in 64-bit version of Windows (drivers needs to be digitally signed, and the manufacture is too cheap, as that cost money, and doesn't care, as the laptop came with 32-bit version OS. In other words, pick a different company next time)

If the laptop has 2GB of RAM, you are better off using a 32-bit OS, as a 64-bit OS consumes more memory as everything uses longer addresses to reference data stored inside.
