basically i had one gtx 970, i added another and now im getting the same if not worse performance, bf4 im getting less than 60 fps constantly and dips well down below 30 at frequent intervals, sli is enabled and the bridge is connected, i also activated the sli meter and its doing nothing really, i get more activity in the menus and browsing on chrome, i should also mention that this is not just a battlefield problem both gpus are running at 25% usage on all games

my rig
sabertooth 990fx r2.0
2 evga geforce gtx 970 superclocked acx 2.0
AMD FX8320 Black Edition 8 Core
corsair rm 850
12gb of kingston ram
fans and h80i liquid cooling

things ive tested

complete driver sweep and fresh install

tested both cards solo and they are fine

reseated a number of times

and have even tried turning in game settings up and down to no avail

Silly question, but, have you enabled SLI?

Edit: dang night theme - I see you did now...nevermind me.

Also, the 8320 is your issue probably. What is the cpu usage in games?

Yeah, give us your CPU and GPU usage levels when in a game. Will help alot :)

i have never seen it max out all the cpus in the monitor maybe one every 5 mins or so but usually they are up and down between 50 and 75 percent

would this be ok cpu usage seems fine

well...there you have it...your GPU loads are 24% and 25% respectively...you are facing a HUGE CPU bottleneck...this cpu is WAY WAY WAY underpowered for such a beastly GPU setup unfortunately.

also is this running on 1080p?! cause you really don't need dual GTX 970 to max out games at 1080p...

This kind of issue is why I got away from SLI configs and AMD CPUs all together.  I used to have an FX-8350 and 2 - EVGA GTX 660ti in SLI.  Shit performance.  The frame rates were ALL over the place.  Couldn't get consistent GPU usage.  Never figured out what the issue was.  I have since gone back to intel CPUs and single high-end GPUs.  Currently running a 4770k & Asus Strix 980.

i had a 4.6ghz FX-8320 beginning this year with my GTX 780 and i was not even able to get consistent GPU load out of a single card...the cpu was crippling the performance of last gen higher end GPU's...so this guy with GTX 970's in SLI is screwed unless he is trying to drive a 4K pannel in which case it would be fine i guess.

Sadly I think im in same boat and feel your pain. Started with an 8120 and asrock extreme 3. Some how the cpu crapped out so replace with 8350, did notice an improvement there especially in gw2 so that was nice. Bf4 always just felt not smooth/fluid. Found numerous people saying the extreme 3 can't support the 8350. So as of Saturday im on a new mobo (asrock 990fx fatal1ty killer) and an ssd added since I had to do a clean install anyway. And as of yesterday I added another and r9 270x in x fire and again an improvement but can only run in high with lower aa and occlusions.

So going to try and figure out how I monitor my CPU/ gpu/ mem usage while playing tonight (I'm new to benchmarking so not sure how) but after multiple people in game and elsewhere just saying the amd 8 core just can't cut it and even an i3 can beat it is disappointing. So yea what a waste of a road to go down, could have easily had an i7 rig by now. Sadly always liked amd first to 64 bit first to break freq barrier twice (5ghz now and I think 3 or 4 in the past?) but something just doesn't work right in the new ones.

Much like what everyone else is saying, it looks like your CPU is the bottleneck, do not buy a I7-4790k for gaming, if you plan on editing, recording, and gaming then go for it like I did. But go for a cheaper CPU if you are just gaming, buy like a high end I5. I used to have the FX-8350 with the same graphics card I have now, 780TI and got unplayable FPS it would sling my FPS around so much. I put my 4790K in here and I am hitting unbelievable FPS.

at this point in the game i think we can safely say that the i7-4790K should be able to run modern AAA titles on ultra settings longer than the i5-4690K will

due to game being more and more heavily threaded and more cpu intensive..so i think for ''future-proofing'' reasons the i7-4790K can be well worth it

for gaming alone as it has more cache and come clocked at 4.4ghz boost out of the box.

In many cases the i7 is only around 70$ more, my opinion is: if it's less than 80$ take it.
