Custom PSU cable question

Go to solution Solved by WhatTheQuack,

The 24 pin connector is just that - 24 pins in one connector.

The 20 + 4 pin connector has 20 pins in its main section, and the other 4 pins are in a separate connector.

The 20 + 4 pin Connector is usually used for compatibility with low-power motherboards, which sometimes only require a 20 pin power connector. In this case, it is unlikely that a 24 pin connector will fit properly.

For more 'normal' motherboards which use a 24 pin power connector, it doesn't matter which connector you use, as both are fully compatible.

In your case, I would go for the 24 pin version, unless you are planning on using a low-power motherboard in future.

I am ordering some custom sleeved cables, and I was wondering about the 24-pin cable specifically.  The website I am ordering from has both 24-pin and 20+4-pin options.  Is there any actual difference between these two connectors?
