Is Qbasic still popular, do people still use it in real world applications? If not then I'll put my time into some other language. (I'm a beginner and I'm learning programming in my Grade 11  computer science class)

There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary, and those who don't.

It's OK for learning but it's not really used any more. Visual Basic, C++, C# and Java are solid alternatives which are actually useful. I started on VB then went to Java and now use C#, ASP, PHP, Python, Ruby and Deadfish for a lot of my work

This statement is invalid. :P Well, some of it is anyway :P

Qbasic is still used by many companies as their solution, as many manufacturers and even retail stores still uses old solutions. Therefore there is still a need for Qbasic programmers.

An example: I am in the process of helping a danish retail store "FONA" (like RadioShack is in the US), by transferring from a Qbasic solution to a more modern and future proof solution.

There is still need for Qbasic coders, maybe not much in the development but especially in the integration towards new solutions, but also in the maintenance of current applications. Having worked for the worlds largest water pump company, i know they are using WIN 95, on alot of their manufacturing equipment, not only on old stuff, but also in the new establishments in Chine and Brazil. Simple because, the benefit of changing to a newer setup is nothing against what it would cost to change the infrastructure of the equipment. Alot of banks are also using old software, simple because it can be verry secure and stable.

So taking a look at Qbasic, is not a bad idea, but it really depends on what kind of coder you wish to be :)
