My current system is:

Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9550 (4 X 2.83GHz) 1333MHz FSB/12MB Cache

4GB CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz

ASUS® P5N73-AM: DDR2, S-ATA II, 1 x PCI-E x16, 2 PCI, etc

Windows 7 64 bit

500GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7,200rpm)

Asus Nvidia GTX560 overclocked 850mhz 1gb.

Corsair TX650W V2

Corsair Carbide 500R.

I wanted to upgrade my RAM however found out that my motherboard does not support it. So im thinking if I have to upgrade my board i just as well upgrade the processor and thus mobo also.

I don't have a clue about motherboards so input there would be very helpful!

In my original post I was thinking of a

I5- 3570K, with ??? mobo

however now haswell is out im also thinking:

I5-4670k with MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming.

I will be mainly gaming with my computer.

Money is an issue as I have a very limited income until I qualify as a nurse in September, I have around £400ish so I am thinking of a decent upgrade with the ability to simple overclock/upgrade with bells and whistles (SSD, liquid cooling etc) when I start to get my regular salary.

Any advice would be great on what to get etc and also which RAM to purchase would be great, Corsair or Kingston?? 8gb ok or more?

Much Thanks!!

If you plan to go Haswell, you'll need to wait, or cheap out on the mobo, as you'll need an AM cooler, a quite bad-ass one for their heat output, unless you plan on delliding.

Codename: HighFlyer, specs:  CPU: i5 2500k cooled by a H70ish(2 rad)   Mobo: MSI MPower Z77   GPUs: Gigabyte GTX 660 OC 1150 MHZ core, 3150 memory both   RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16G @1600mhz   SSD: ADATA Premier Pro sx900 / HDD Seagate Barracuda 1TB/Samsung 1TB   Power supply: Corsair RM650 80+ Gold   Case Corsair Carbide 500R   5.4 ghz achieved on the good old 2500k, may it rest in peace. Current daily OC is 4.8 @1.41 v

i5-4670k with MSI GD65 Gaming  and 8GB ram upgrade will make a huge difference in performance. Of course you are budgeting you will have to wait a bit longer for cheaper MOBO's But, the lag and loading times will be super noticeable if upgrade. If you can fit an aftermarket cooler in the upgrade , you can OC to 4.2ghz~ easily and safely

Could you get by until Black Friday?  I waited until then to build the rig in my sig and with all the sales it only cost me $750ish, which is a steal for the performance I get.  Not sure if you're in a situation where you could wait or not...

I'd probably stick with the i5-3570K for the price, especially if your budget is an issue.  A lot of people are saying that their Haswell chips barely overclock, so you should easily be able to make up the 10% difference with a moderate OC.  Then with the money you save you could upgrade from your 560 to a high end Nvidia or AMD card.

Ah I didn't realise the difference between the gd45 and gd65 ill definitely pick up the 45 instead and get an AM cooler before I OC, I was looking towards haswell rather than the 3570k due to them being around the same price, and seeing as I'm upgrading I just as well upgrade to the newest chipset??

are you going to do overclocking yes or no?

edit: i saw just you want to OC a little bit

in that case don't take a K serie :)

just take the cheapest i5 from the 1150 series and a decent Z87 mainboard and do some BLCK overclocking

i assume with some overclocking you just want to hit between 4.2 and 4.4Ghz so BLCK would be enough for that
