For my home server, i literally harvested an old ODD from a crappy HP i had lying around so i could install the OS

 

If you REALLY need to have the ability to read disks, get an external one

 

but seriously though... unless you'll be using BR on a daily basis, go with whichever one is cheaper

If you look around at old computer shops you can find Blu-ray ones for under 10 bucks. Regular ones for a dollar. I'd start there.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I picked up an ASUS Blu-Ray drive when I built my system a couple of year ago for under $20. I wanted to be able to watch Blu-Rays just in case. I've used it a few times, mainly when my PS3 doesn't want to play a certain disc properly, but that's about it. I wouldn't pay more than $20 for any disc drive at this point in time. With virtual disc drives and the near death of optical media, it's just not worth any more than that.
