Hey guys,

I'm putting together a budget build and was wondering if an intel i3 4160 or a AMD FX 6300 would be better. My rig is for gaming and where i am they are both the exact same price.

Right now you won't notice any big difference in gaming performance between the two, but i3 uses less power and can be upgraded to an i5 or i7 later on. The FX 6300 can be overclocked, but uses more power, and the only CPU you'd be able to upgrade to later on is an 8-core FX, which presents practically no performance benefit over a 6-core FX in most games.

i3 is comparable to a 8320 for gaming

This can't just be laid down flat. It depends on what game.

Yes it does, but if you look at the thousands (ok probably hundreds) of benchmarks, they end up roughly the same on average.

For older games this is recommended, but when you start getting into games that are more multi core aware, this becomes less and less true.

Especially since you can OC a 8320 by a fair amount.

Yup, the 8320 will probably start to pull ahead significantly when overclocked, but you may as well get a locked i5 at that point.

Fair enough.

i go with Faceman and say i3 haswell refresh

MMO games need more of single tread power than multi core power

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
