My own VPN

For last few years I've been experiencing isp throttling when using torrent. I looked around and found that VPN would fix my problem. Bad thing is that I have to pay for that service. Is there any way that I could make my own VPN that has similar effect as that third-party one? If yes how, if no why?

As I see that many of you don't understand what I want I want to make my own vpn server that my pc connects to. Maybe at my friends house as he doesn't get throttled and has high speed internet.

i mean I guess you could but I don't think they'd be thrilled with you eating up their bandwidth, possible DMCA notices, and leaving a computer on that you can get into 24/7

He would do that for me. I would use it only when I want to download some torrent. So it wont be online 24/7. He has pretty fast internet so he wouldn't mind and I could just call him and say "Turn vpn on".

There is no free way to set this up yourself unless you have a second house somewhere else with connection to a non-throttled ISP.

This option would almost certainly be a violation of your friends parent's contract with their ISP. Depending on the exact laws in the area you live, it may also be against the law.

I beleve it's legal. It's your right to do whatever you want with your internet connection.

You could even sell it to the neighborhood if you get approvel and pay tax for the earnigs. ISP wont care.

I dont think that law exists anywhere. And even if it exists in my country nobody care about laws.

You probably want to read through your contract with your ISP again. Every regular consumer level service contract I have ever seen specifically states that sub-leasing service will terminate is in violation of your contract in which they can terminate your service, sue you for whatever language they included in the contract, and then also sue for any damages that they feel they have incurred since you had customers that should have been paying them, at least in the US. Now if you have a business level contract with an ISP that is a different story and is typically fair game, hence why business plans for internet are so much more expensive for the same speeds.

Laws vary widely by region and even town, it is hard to say what is and isn't legal for you without access to the regulations of your city, and any other laws that may affect you. But laws against sharing utilities like this do exist in certain places. Heck I know that in the city I live in there are specific city ordinances against this. Because of some developments here we have seen an influx of out-of-state workers that are pulling up RVs and squatting on land, and then paying neighbors to the land they are squatting on to hook up to their utilities. To stop this squatting, and for the city to make it tax dollars these people should be paying ordinances were passed that state the sharing of any utility like this (including electric, gas, water, internet, tv, and phone) is illegal and actually caries pretty hefty fines.

Like I said this can be a pretty localized issue.

Ok I  understand your concern now about law part. Thanks for clarifying :)

even if ISP's contract or local law doesn't forbid torrent, the copy right owner can sue you if they find out where you live

lol they wont bather to come here. I don't know a person from my country that ever bought movie, game or os.
