Hi,

I know I've many many posts on my build and getting advice, new parts, better prices, deals, better parts and all. But people (such as my irl friend) always seem to disagree with what loads of people said and I have no clue who to listen to! My friend says to not get parts that seem good and are believed to be good and loads of people think they are good, and then says to get parts that nobody thinks is good.

So, here are my (planned) specs:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WT4QBm

What I need clarified:

  • My friend thinks that I shouldn't get the i5 4690K as apparently he thinks it has overheating problems (yet he has the 4670K and facts prove that the 4690K is better, also according to CPUboss)
  • My friend also says that the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Windforce is not worth the money and that I should get the R9 290x or 280x as it's a better bang for your buck, 970 or 290x/280x
  • Friend says I should go with Corsair K70 RGB and not the Ducky Shine 3 as Corsair has an even stronger build quality than ducky, even though Ducky is still known to be strong and... Corsair has had cases of unreliable backlighting.

Should I go with what I have and not listen to my friend who is feeding me this info, or listen to what he says?

Thanks,

Sheepy

Points to clarify:

- Total bullshit, the 4690k is epic

- Not worth the money? He needs to stop talking crap. Also the R9 290(x) is only better if you can find one with a significant price drop. Otherwise the GTX 970 can often match R9 290x.

- Corsair better build quality than ducky? hahaha-no.gif

I would swap out the RAM for http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f314900cl9d8gbxl. The rest of your build is super solid and the GTX 970 is an excellent choice

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861
