Hi everyone, a friend of mine is looking to upgrade the GPU of his system (specs below) and we were considering the GTX 970, the R9 290X or non X or maybe a second R9 270 in CrossFire. What do you think? Will the PSU be enough for at least the first 3 of this options? What is in your opinion the most cost effective route? Any other option he should consider? Please consider Italian pricing at http://www.amazon.it/

FX-8350 Black Edition

Asrock 970 Extreme4

Kingston HyperX 2X4 GB 1600Mhz

Sapphire R9 270 Dual-X

XFX 550w Core Edition‏

the R9 290/X is the perfect GPU for his system

270 crossfire needs a bigger PSU

He is having some trouble running many of the latest games especially from Ubisoft even at medium-high details, Far Cry 4 for example is literally unplayable. I suspect tough it is an upgrade just for the sake of doing it or maybe futureproofing a bit.

oh Far Cry 4

how unplayable can it be?

frame rate drops really bad?

well if the new GPU dont help

he might need to upgrade the CPU and mobo too

I don't see how a new motherboard could effect performances, I also thought the 8350 was a really good CPU, isn't it?

the CPU is the main issue here

some games may run better on Intel Quad Core than on AMD 8 core

because of the way the game is coded to use more single tread power

quell'alimentatore dovrebbe andare bene per tutti e tre di quelle configurazioni anche se io ti consiglio 600w come minimo. io ti consiglio la Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming. Poi SLI 2 970 andrebbe sempre bene 600w
