Is the default format option in the advanced tab of your audio device the maximum setting?

Like if I have it set to 16-Bit @ 44,100Khz will it downsample any audio played at a higher setting (24-Bit @ 192,000Khz for example)?

I assume it is just a reference option so if software asks what sample rate or bit depth to play at it knows what it should default to?

Currently I have mine set to 16-Bit @ 44,100Khz because I rip my CD's to FLAC and that is the sample rate and bit depth they use.

Just incase you didn't know what i was talking about...

Assuming you're using DirectSound, then yeah, all other sample rates will be converted (up or downsampled) to the preferred choice.

If you listen to music a lot, may I suggest trying Foobar2k + wasapi plugin?
