Hi all,

recently upgraded my old GTX 660 to a 970 (long overdue) but since then I've been experiencing some strange things...

first of all my CPU Usage in task manger is so jumpy just from web browsing i was on YouTube and it jumped from 8% to 20% to 80% then back to 20%

And whenever i play a game in decent resolution 1080p/720p all the eye candy up to high or ultra it just crashes and even in games where it selects the best settings for me it just crashes

I ran COD Advanced Warfare along side task manger and GPU tweak from ASUS and GPU is showing 98% to 100% and CPU is jumping all over the place

did the same with Far Cry 4 and got the same results

I've tried re installing drivers updating drivers lowering resolution to like medium works but ideally i want to play on high or ultra (it is a 970) is this a bottleneck?

and could a new GPU cause an erratic CPU?

is my GPU defective?

Is any of this linked?

Thanks in advance!

PC Specs:

Intel i7 4770k - OCd 4.3 GHz

16gb Corsair vengeance memory

Asus Strix GTX970 - Boost clock 1253MHz -Memory clock 7010MHz

Dual screen setup

Definitely not a bottleneck. Something is weird.

Obviously your CPU is overlocked, so firstly turn that down to stock speeds and try it again. If it's fine at stock, slowly start turning things back up. Please run AIDA64 and Intel Burn Test every time you up the speeds 0.2-0.3 Ghz, 'cause it'll save you the hassle of starting all over again when your CPU starts to act up. If it's still weird at stock speeds, clear the CMOS.

Same for the GPU. Turn down all OC'd settings to stock, and run some stress tests to make sure it's fine.

Also could you perhaps tell us some details on your cooling setup? Maybe there just isn't adequate airflow to the components.

My build: tis be ordered

I'll try taking the cpu to stock

And cooling H80i with push pull out the rear

120mm i at the top and one at the front as well as fans built into my side panels my case is a zalman z11 plus

There is NO WAY that your system is bottlenecked.

I did't think so but it just seemed that way depending if the game was CPU or GPU intensive one (CPU or GPU) would be maxed out and then the game will crash until it gets back to normal
