hello everyone! so for christmas im going to overhaul my pc. parents are going to help pay because christmas gift. :D

anyway, currently have

i5-3570K cooled with a hyper 212 evo (still need to OC)

asus 7950

8 gigs of corsair ram

gigabyte z77-ds3h

and a ancient case from 2003 with 7 blue led 80mm fans

600 watt psu.

1tb green drive

250gb samsung 840 evo

some background:

recently just got that evo, and a 27inch monitor. I'm going to college, so want something not so bright and obnoxious for my case+leds. and the 1080p screen means my 7950 struggles to run some games on ultra, and dont want to worry about upgrading my pc during college. So im going to pick up another 7950 for right around $100(either from the forum or ebay, but thats what they go for).

so what i need:

second 7950

new psu

new case

the budget is 100ish dollars for the gpu, because thats coming out of my pocket, then approx 200$ for the psu and case. The parts NEED(99% perfer, can order online but rather not) to come from microcenter.

so for 200, best psu that can support dual 7950s(800 watt atleast?) and a case. Im really liking the nxzt s340. I LOVE the psu cover. any other case that has that, would be wonderful. so that leaves power supply, or a diffrent case and power supply combo. and that leaves 100-120$ for the power supply budget. that being said, not all of it has to be spent.

or if there is a better way to spend $300, any suggestions would be helpful! thanks! sorry for the formatting, long day

Case, get a case. my pc at head hight where i sit is only 30dB. Its nice and silent. 7 80mm fans must sound like a jet engine starting up.

and get a R9 280

there basically the same thing, get another 7950 and CF them

luckily its not to loud. my last pc, you could hear it though a closed door. I want my pc to be near silent when its not under load. that case supports 140MM fans, so that should really help. and ill be sharing a room at college, so I cant have a computer case that gives off more light then my monitor. That and my case has literally zero cable managment. and the whole side is a window. yay gaming cases from 2003.

yeah, because i could sell my gpu, but they have such a high performance for the cost, its hard to drop it. I mean, I can play far cry 4 on straight high settings and it keeps 1080p/60fps on a 100$ card.

H440 is solid, goes for $110-120 depending on where you buy.  I personally like the psu cover better, too.

I know i was looking at it, but that leaves 80$ for a 800 watt Psu, thats cutting it really tight. I'll see though. was looking at it. I love how that line up of cases look

I would strongly advise looking into a good motherboard. I know it's tempting to go cheap, but really pay attention to I/O, to the reviews on dependability, the availability of PCIe x16 running x16 (as opposed to an x16 slot running x8 or x4), Consider upgrade ability as well. How long are you keeping this machine? Getting a new processor in 2 years? 4? 10? What about ram?

Just some things to keep in mind. Other than that, I'd say your budget is adequate, and you'll have a good enough machine during your college stay.

Ill look up the model. just didnt think it was relevent at the time of posting.

going to keep it for atleast the next 4 years. Will probably upgrade the ram, but thats a easy upgrade. that and I only have 3 functional ram slots i believe. long story short, my brother fit a ddr2 ram into the ddr3 slot. he took the "takes a bit of effort for it to snap it" to literal.

so will probably grab a 8 gig stick down the road a little. prices will probably drop in 2 or 3 years, and 8 for gaming is more then adequate currently.

edit: gigabyte z77-ds3h
