Freenas backup

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with Freenas, and it being able to back up a certain folder to an external hard drive?

You should be able to use it to do backups of separate folders. You could also use the regular Windows Back up option. If you need something more specific, you can ask in the FreeNAS forum: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php.
I could also suggest checking out WD SmartWare software. It offers various ways of backup (including folder, file-type, scheduled or continues). Here's a link: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=HG8NfK.
