Hello, I am working on my first build and have made the list below. I am looking for any kind of feedback or improvements to this build as I know little about hardware. I am looking to build a PC that will run most modern games at 1080p max settings at 60 fps. Let me know if this build can do that or of any improvements you have. Thanks!

This looks sweet, how will it run games differently from what I have? Thanks for the list!

Quite a bit better as an i5 will outperform an FX8xxx in gaming, and an R9 290 is also quite a bit better than an R9 280x. I would however change two more things:

With this build you can buy a second R9 290 down the road if you decide a single 290 isn't powerful enough. And before anyone says something stupid....I picked a Z97 board and a non -k cpu simply because it was the cheapest (well, $5~ more than the cheapest) ATX board with XFIRE support).

@tucker556 , I would also recommend getting an ssd if you can afford to spend another $60~.

An R9 290 is quite a bit better than it's similarly priced GTX770 -- An R9 290 performs similarly to a GTX970, but runs hotter and less efficiently.

good to know, I checked on your list and there was a compatibility issue involving the processor and RAM, is this a big deal o is it negligible?
