Motherboard suggestions?

Hello everyone!

It's almost tax return season, which means I'll finally be building my computer. I've got a very solid parts list in mind, all with the exception of the motherboard.

Planned parts:

- GTX 980 (haven't decided for sure which non reference I want yet)

- Intel i7 4790k

- Corsair WD 2tb green hdd

- Intel 730 240gb ssd

- Corsair RM 650w

- Cooler Master Cosmos SE

I'll probably want an ATX size board, and I'd prefer it to be gold or silver, but I'd appreciate any suggestions. My real confusion comes with not knowing the difference between boards, or knowing what features I would want or need.

Right now I'm looking at Asus' z97 series boards, but there are so many models of that board it's confusing. The wifi versions are nice, such as the deluxe or pro (ac wifi) but is it worth spending the extra money for those, especially if I don't know what else I'd be getting out of them? Or is it more worth it for me to get a lower cost board and buy either a wireless card or adapter? Are there any other motherboards you might suggest? Or do you have any tips for someone building their first rig on what to look for when it comes to a motherboard?

I guess you would get more suggestions, if you posted your hardwarelist that you want to buy.

Also: If you want to make a favour to a stranger, please do not buy anything from ASUS, I had such a bad time using their stuff.

I do not want to rant on them here, so I will make a cut here.

If you want a spefific suggestion from me, I would recommand the Gigabyte GA-H97-HD3. It appears to have the thing normal people could use (exept Wifi) and is not too pricy.

Also, I never bothered much about Wifi. But from what I tried, I was never able to make it work anyway.

And I would not recommend getting very expensive things, because they can fail as the cheaper stuff, just giving you a worse situation in your pocket.

Appreciate it. That definitely looks like a good option. Weighing in the cost of a wifi card it seems like it'll be less for both than for a board with it included.
