pretty much just gaming but im not sure if ill ever do video editing n other things of that sort later on.

 

Then you'll be fine with Z97

Well from what I've learned so far, most people use them for workstations, like rendering, modeling, editing, etc.

Yeah, X99 is only useful if you use it for content creation and massive rendering. You'll do fine with a Z97 platform. With an i7 CPU, that'll take care of your video editing needs if you do decide to go into that route.
