SG10 Cooler Advice

Go to solution Solved by Skyfire,

Thanks for the quick reply.

If I went for the aio cooler I would be limited to a thick single 120 mm cooler only, (such as H80i). 240 mm is not possible unfortunately.

So the NH-D14 is a better performer in terms of cooling, is it quiet?

I have just seen Noctua is bringing out a successor for the NH-D14 in Q4 2013.

Should I wait for the successor, as the two things that i don't want to slack off on are the cooler and power supply?

The NH-D14 statistically performs better than 120mm AIO coolers so if you wanted lower temps, the NH-D14 is definitely better. The stock fans are also good and are silent. But you could always upgrade to better Noctua fans.

And this is really up to you. If you wait, you'll get better performance obviously. The newer heatsink is much larger and the stock fans are better too (If this is the successor you're talking about). But I'm not sure if this larger heatsink will fit in your case. The NH-D14 performs very well though. It's on par with some 240mm AIO coolers. You really can't go wrong with it.

Sorry for the late reply, by the way!

I am almost finished deciding on all my components for my sg10 build.

The one part that I am having trouble with is what type of cooler I should buy.

I have decided on the below parts:

SSD: OCZ Vector 256GB

HDD: WD Black

CPU 4770K

GPU GTX780

PSU Seasonic platinum 660w or equivalent Silverstone strider (still deciding)

Motherboard: ASUS Gene

Memory: Corsair Venegence 16GB

What is the best cooling option for this case, an all in one water cooler or a high end air tower cooler?

I want the best temps for such a small case, so please ignore price for now.

I know that a NH-D14 can fit in there. Unless you can mount a 240+ mm AIO, then I'd go for the air cooler for best performance.

EDIT:

If you have tall RAM heatsinks, then you might want to check if you have enough clearance actually.
