You get nothing from folding but you do support research. Unlike mining, it actually help for research. But if you fold for the Litecoin team, you get Litecoin if you fold.

In all seriousness though, it's using your computer's processing power, to fold proteins. In doing so, it helps with creating cures for diseases etc. For doing it, you get a slightly bigger electric bill, and the knowledge that you are contributing to a good cause. As for mining, that is to create virtual currency, but at this moment in time, it is not worthwhile doing it as the value of such currency have gone down, and a regular desktop computer would cost more electric to mine the virtual currency, than what the actual value would be itself.
