Jump to content

Get those front panel connectors and solder a splitter to power the HDD activity lights on your case, and to a transistor. Have that transistor be the switch for your LED strips.

Not too sure, but you could rewire the normal Hard drive activity LED from most cases for this, every motherboard has the prong for it anyway so pull the led out of the case and find a way to adapt it to an LED strip.

Get a phanteks enthoo luxe or phantom 820 and rewire the lighting

I'm not sure if you can do each drive individually with SATA but you can run your drive LED header on your motherboard through an optocoupler and use that to drive an LED strip, you can use transistors but an optocoupler is probably the easiest option and isolates your motherboard from your circuit, just remember the header is low side switching and if memory serves the high side has a 330ohm resistor in series also make sure whatever's driving the LEDs can supply enough current.

In my build I have a MCU to control different modes which uses optocouplers to get the outputs from the motherboard and then drives the LEDs through some MOSFETs (incomplete details in my build log).

I'd recommend searching for gate drive optocouplers for ones with built in MOSFETs as they will tend to handle higher currents than transistor output ones if you want to use them to drive the LEDs directly.
