I'm planning to upgrade my pc at the end of January and i have a budget of $600AUD. I do things like use it as a media server, gaming and will use it for recording all at once. I want a decent look to it as well. The games i would be playing are things like Project Cars and Star Citizen. I was looking at the i7 4790k with a ASUS z97 Gryphon

i7 4790k | ASUS Z97 Gryphon | 8GB Corsair XMS3 1333Mhz | Asus Direct CUII GTX 770 1267/3829 | Stock Cooler | Antec Neo Eco 520W | WD Green 1TB

Silverstone TJ08-e | Klipsch Promedia 2.1 | Razer Tiamat 2.2 | LG 24EN43VS | Razer Naga (2010) | Razer Lycosa (2010)

Yes, go with a cheaper motherboard they won't affect the performance so get the cheapest that has the features you need.

Thanks for the help, also the Gryphon is one of the cheapest ones which support SLI which im planning on doing in the future with either GTX 970 at the end of next year or maybe GTX 1070

really? you won't have the same pricing as we do here in north america where a MSI Z97 G55 SLI goes for around 110$ and the griphon is like 195$...

Check this out, 105$ after rebate:

Super Alloy, Nichicon FG Audio Caps, 8 Phase

it's not even cheap...

or this one, it looks killer...109$:

This is the best price i'm able to find in the state for the microATX Z97 gryphon:
