i need a NAS

Go to solution Solved by skywake,

Get a consumer NAS from one of your local PC retailers. They start at around ~$150AU or so for a decent-ish entry level two bay one. Throw a couple of drives in it for RAID 1, WD Reds cost a bit more but they're worth it IMO. If you want 3TB? 2x 3TB is around $330AU for WD Reds. Add around another $100AU if you want 4TB.

Cross platform compatibility is a non-issue, they just appear on your network and setup is easy. 3TB isn't hard as I've shown. Ugly? Well it depends on what your tastes are I guess but odds are it's going to be out of sight anyway. Cost? Well I guess it depends on if you think $500AU or so is too expensive.

so my family needs a nas they use Mac and i use windows so it would be nice if it works well for both. its going to be used primarily to store photos and documents (2.5TB at the moment)

so what i need

-windows and mac compatibility

-more than 3tb of usable space

-not ugly

-preferably not cost the world
