After 5 years,my gpu gave out.

AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE 3.4GHz OC + Scythe Yasya cooler
Kingmax 4gb ram 1066MHz ddr2
GIGABYTE MA770-UD3 rev1.0
*Force3D HD 5770 1 GB*
FSP Group Bluestorm II 500W

Giving my current options,i can only "upgrade" my gpu,not get a new system. Atm i have 8800gt for a replacement, which is just really horrible, what i am really worried about is how long this system would last anymore...?

I bought a new monitor and 3 days later the GPU died, obviously my power supply can just die as well,is it a risk worth taking, considering i have no money for a complete new PC?

I want to get a GPU that wouldnt bottleneck me/non important bottleneck, taking into account my 500W PSU(18A on +12v),price is not really limited per se(new or used doesnt matter) since i wont be buying a titan or gtx 980

( BUT i did find a gtx 670 for 150$ barely used, would this make sense or for every GPU i pick would i need a new PSU as well? )

(Am i going too hard, should i be in the gtx 750Ti range...?Also this ddr2 memory sucks i know)

There are so many older 2nd hand cheaper GPU's that are more powerful you can grab.

Seen a fair few of $60-$90 7850-7870's in my time searching these last 6 months.

Seen $120 7950's and 7970's, rare at this price but appearing regularly enough on ebay.

Save some moneys,...,search, Bid/Buy,... Pay with Paypal for Protection

$80 may still take you a while, but a 7870 for $80 beats the shit out of that older card, and you can carry it into your new build too (with extra non-CPU-limited performance also)

I'd advice a whole new build, but if thats way too far off, save $50-$100 and spend it wisely on something better, doesn't have to be new, just working as described for the time being until you save again for something better.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

would a gtx 670(157$) be an overkill?

alright,here are my definite options:

gainward gtx 760 2gb(this one is most likely no go because as i can see i need 30 amps on +12v and i have 18A)

gigabyte gtx 660

gtx 670

hd 7870(i started to dislike amd after so many years so i wouldnt mind trying nvidia for the first time)

gtx 570

gtx 580

----and everything below that

what would you choose and why?
