I will be buying a xfx hd 7950 this summer and I wanted to know if the red metal plate on the cooler is removeable. Prefferably without voiding warrenty.

The red colour will not look great in my build so I want to paint it. (with plasti dip most likely)

I saw some person put tippex on it. It cant be removed, its part of the cooler. I didnt like that either, it doesnt go with the rest of the card in my opinion.

I wouldn't buy a XFX..

Otherwise it has a ugly blue pcb and the xfx is a reference design and I want to do watercooling in the future.

on this picture you can see it has 2 screws, if you cant remove it then it is also glued to the cooler? how stupid is that.

God knows but if you try to remove it then there will be problems. You could paint it i guess.

Get a His ICEQ X2 as it is one of the best 7950s.. I have two and never had any issues. They are both running 1200/1500 and I haven't tried pushing them yet..Is the XFX even voltage unlocked? I belong to the 79 series club on OC. NET and I haven't heard anything great about the XFX..

Have two XFX 7950s in crossfire....been using XFX since the 7770s...no issues.  Have taken the heatsink off and re-applied the thermal compund (IC Diamond) and could not be happier at this point.  Idles in the low 30s and after running Unigen, Kombuster, and a few more tests...load goes to high 60s and then levels out quickly once test is complete.  They do not have the best cooling system around, but for me the silicon lottery has been good.  If you are into asthetics...the black PCB and aluminum finish will fit the bill....Sapphire makes great AMD cards as they are (at this time) exclusive to AMD.  HIS IceQ with its single fan ran quieter than others that were tested...and all heat is exhausted out the back. If you dont mind the blue PCBs..go for either the IceQ or a Sapphire Flex...good luck on the silicon lottery little brother and happy gaming...

Just make sure that with any cooler that dispels heat into the case (most non reference models) that you have good cooling thru out your rig....

I personally love the twin frozr iii HD 7950. But I picked one up when they were using HD 7970 PCBs though. But mine OCs like a champ ;)

I currently have a xfx hd 6850, have't had any problems yet but gets to loud imo.

Maybe I'll get the msi twin frozr, although it's €30 more expensive. I hope I also get the 7970 pcb for that price :)
